Now I've been meaning to try out fruit roll-ups and I did but sadly the finished product was not what it was supposed to be!!
So the tale begins with me looking up a recipe online as one does, and wow were there many choices to choose from!! And I chose a recipe by Sara Wells www.ourbestbites.com, which looked amazing!
So now with the recipe chosen it was time to assemble my fruits and begin on my mission to create what would have been hopefully the best homemade fruit roll-ups. So armed with green and red apples, and one papaya and the juice of half a lemon I was ready to start my journey.
So the journey began with me preparing all my fruits, coring and chopping everything. Wow how powerful I felt, I can assure you that that feeling lasted until I was done with my nest mission. So into the food processor, all my fruits went until they were thoroughly processed.
With all the confidence in the world, I moved on to pouring my processed fruit into a small pot with the lemon juice and set it on low heat just to simmer everything and awaken all the sugars in the fruit. At this point I was sure nothing could possibly go wrong, boy was I wrong!!
So since I have no Silpat or anything like that, I hoped parchment paper sprayed with some cooking spray would do the job!! After all, this would go in at the lowest of heats for the longest of times!
Now with my baking tray (cookie sheet) lined and prepped, I was rather confident that everything would go according to plan. I pored my mixture onto the sheet and placed everything in the oven and hoped for the best. About a half-hour going in that's when things went sideways and my mixture started to burn!! Well worried as can be I reduce the heat even further hoping that that would help, biggest lie I've ever told myself!!
Well suffice it said, about an hour and a half in my whole mixture was burnt to a crisp and well that's the end of my journey sadly...
